ART

Lindsay Patton is a contemporary impressionistic artist who lives in the Cape Winelands, Western Cape. She is known for her use of mute and vivid colours, with thick yet delicately textured brushstrokes. Her large mixed media artworks of oil, acrylic and charcoal invite the viewer to discover invigorating colour combinations.

Lindsay draws inspiration from nature, with her main passion being large canvasses of landscapes, nudes and florals.

Her masters of influence span the classical impressionistic era of Mannet and Monet to the great play of fire-like light in Turners’ works and the dramatic mood of Rembrandt – who found his one source of light. Because she has no formal art foundation, the uninhibited comes to the fore with a bold and experimental approach to painting.

“Apparently unlimited by rules.”

Painting is integrated with everyday life. Easels are set up to take advantage of nature’s backdrop and days are spent under the patio vines overlooking an expanse of water and willow trees to the north. To the south lies misty grasslands, layered mauve and rusty fynbos fields stretching up to the dramatic Franschhoek Mountains.

Franschhoek is a valley whose four seasons provide a shifting subject of natural elements, combined with the intangible essence of universal force. An ideal environment for an inspired artist.
